Book Review: Rise of Sivagami -

After getting to watch Baahubali - The Conclusion after a wait of 1 long year, the book was a great "wow " for me. I was deciding to read the online version when I was tempted to book up from the stands at Lulu Mall Cochin, Crosswords Store.
The sad factor is that I bought from Lulu for Rs 300 and on Amazon, the price is only Rs 142. Anyways, at that particular moment I wanted to pick the book and it happened in an instinct.

We had planned that my nephew, cousin and myself can read the book. So I had given to my 10-year-old nephew to read it. But thankfully, he didn't get time to read before I was returning to Trivandrum. NOTE: Do not give the book to little children. The book has certain elements that Is not good for small kids. I would recommend only children above 18 to read the book.

The book has a good part that the characters are defined in 2-3 sentences. This proves useful as the story progresses. The characters that you know like Shivagami, Kattapa, Bijjala Deva etc you can easily relate to while reading the book. But there are several other characters like Pattaraya, Rudra Bhatta, Parameswara and many such names which sound similar that you are likely to get confused. the character description comes to great use at these times.

The story has been well crafted which begins with Young SHivagami searching for a manuscript that has been left by her deceased father. She is brought up by her uncle Thimma after her father was hanged accused of being a traitor. Right from the beginning, we get the idea that her father was trapped into this. And her aim in life to avenge the death of her father. The main storyline is about this.

The further stories revolve around the Gauriparvart and the stone from it which is highly expensive and strong. The weapons made from it makes Mahishmati the supreme power. The people in power conspire to steal these precious stones and eventually the stories mingle at a point. But towards the end, when you feel like the story is going to end with the pages getting over, you are left with a 100 more questions. The same effect that Baahubali-1 had.

How long will be have to wait for Book 2 to get the questions answered
1. Why did Shivagami marry Bijjala Deva when Mahadeva loved her and she too was getting attracted to him?
2. How did the shy Mahadeva become the king of Mahishmati?
3. Did Shivagami kill Uncle Thimma?
4. How did Shivagami avenge her father's death?
5. What actually happened to hands of Bijjala Deva?
6. What was in the manuscript?
7. Why was Shivagami's father hanged?
8. Was Gauri Parvat saved?
and much much more.. very crude of the writer to have left so many questions after a full novel.

A Court of Thrones and Roses by Sarah J Maas

Have a look at the book trailer here

This is the official trailer you can tumble over several an-made trailers while searching on Youtube. I was as usual recommended this book by my niece-in-law and she seemed rather fascinated by the book and was intensely reading the series online. So i just felt that this kind of fictious and fascinating story was my type of story like and I was still waiting for Cassandra Clare to release her new book. So I thought this would be a good diversion.
The Court of Thrones and Roses is all about a Fairie kingdom and how they are attacked by a power loving enemy fairies. There is the central character of the book, the brave and courageous Feyre who is the only money source of a family that was left devastated due to life situations. She went into hunting in the woods for food and then to sell the hide. And the initial story line connected the character of Feyre with Katniss Everdeen of Hunger Games and I was of the notion that this is going to be like dystopian novel. Bt it did not, the exact time of taking place is not sent out in the book, (or probably I just skipped it out somewhere).

The girl Feyre in a hunting expedition during the winter, kills a wolf who actually turns out to be a fairie. The fairie lord comes looking for the murderer of his subject and demands Feyre to go with him as a part of treaty. She could either die there or go with him to the palace. In some places which she is in the mansion of the fairie High Lord, the story line seemed to rather drag along with no great revealings for about 5-10 pages. I have developed a bad tendency to every other fiction and fantasy story to Cassandra Clare Mortal and Immortal instrument series. Int hese books, the mysteries unfold in a flowy manner and you are never left to stay aloof over finishign the book. I have spent endless never ending days to finish the Cassandra Clare series, simply due to the sheer elegance of displaying matter.
