Fairest is the intermediate 3.5 book of the Lunar Chronicles before Winter. The first book Cinder was rather engulfing, but the flow and rhythm the story seemed a little lost in Cress and and Scarlet. Winter was a good book, but too much of descriptions but as I said might had felt so as I have a very bad urge to finish the book and the story once it gets thrilling. Any kind of vague descriptions at that point seems boring to me.
Fairest was a good book with less of descriptions and the story is all about how Levana became so cruel. The tortures inflicted upon her by her sister, the loss of love from her parents even before they were dead and the unguided love of her life, is all well explained in the book. It is a good read when compared to the other intermediate ones like Glitches which seemed rather boring.
The Family tree is a rather interesting one. The king and Queen Blackburns were killed by a shell. The throne went to Channary Blackburn who was the elder sibling. She became pregnant with an unknown person and then when the baby was about 3 years old, she died due to Regolith poisoning. Levana took over the ruling till Selene Blackburn, Daughter of Channary would come of age. The power gave her the wishes to become the ruler forever and thus tried killing Selene in a fire accident. While Levana was still a princess she fell in love with the guard, Evret Hayle. Everet was married to Solstice and she was pregnant when Levana first met her. Solstice died during her labor and the daughter was named Winter. Levana later took up the glamour of Solstice and emotionally blackmailed Evret to marrying her and thus Winter became her daughter.
