What to Do in Cambodia?

Feel the terror of Khmer Rouge’s reign at the Tuol Sleng Prison and come close to the Gods at Angor Wat. The pristine beaches are ever welcoming and the place has something new, every time you visit it.

The European Council on Tourism and Trade awarded Cambodia with the recognition of the Best Tourism Destination in 2016. Competing against 30 countries, Cambodia was recognized for its pace of development. Nature, historical and other attractions are well preserved so that the tourists get to experience it in the natural form. River adventure is a major attraction here. And the point worth mentioning is the people who are very friendly and the peace and calmness in the kingdom.

1.    Angor Wat

There are many temples in Cambodia, and Angor Wat is the most magnificent of them all. When you are planning a trip to Cambodia, put this place on the top of the list. The temple was built by King Suryavarman II. Architects from over the world look onto Angor Wat for its balance and composition.

2.    Floating Villages of Tonle Sap Lake

Cambodia tourism is not just about temples, but the main reason is the preservation of ancient cultures and traditions. The village is known as Chong Kneas. There are paddy fields and stilt houses. Find time to speak to the gods at the temple atop Phnom Krom hill. There is also an elementary school stilted in the lake.

3.    Battambang

Battambang is a perfect blend of relatively urban northwestern modernity town. You get to see the colonial temples and buildings, riverside calmness and grab a cup of coffee at the café. Do not forget the river trip from Battambang to Siem Reap. The Bat Cave is also a popular attraction here.

4.    Phnom Penh

The Silver Pagoda is the main attraction at Phnom Penh, which is the capital of Cambodia. The Silver Pagoda is within the Royal Palace. Tourists are bedazzled by the gold Buddha statues studded with jewels. There is a life-sized, 90kg Maitreya Buddha statue which is studded with 9584 diamonds. Tuol Seng Genocide Museum is also in the capital city, standing as a terrifying memoir to the rule of Khmer Rouge.

5.    Sihanoukville

Other than temples, the beaches in Cambodia pull in a good deal of tourists. You can explore nature in its untouched form and there are several underdeveloped islands. Clearwater, white sands, and peaceful environment are the plus factors of Sihanoukville.

6.    Khmer Apsara Dance

The dance said stories of myths, love, and gods. Royal Cambodian Ballet is an age-old dance form and is slow and precise. The dancers wore elaborate costumes and accessories. There are both male and female dancers. There are also Cambodian Folk dance centers.

7.    Kratie

It is a small town and visitors come here to experience the typical marketplace. Lying on the banks of the Mekong river, enthusiasts drop in to glimpse the rare Irrawaddy dolphins.

8.    Bokor Hill Station

This is one of the ghostly abandoned places of Cambodia. The hill station was built by the French dating back to the 1920s and you can reach the place on hiking tours.

9.    Preah Vihear

It is a temple located in the Dangrek Mountains and lies on the border between Thailand and Cambodia.

10.    Koh Ker

This is yet another abandoned temple that was built during the rule of the Khmer empire. The giant Garuda sits atop the 30-meter tall pyramid.
